About the position:

We are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Finance Team to provide support for our accounting and financial reporting activities. This position provides a unique opportunity for the qualified candidate working in Finance to make a positive impact on the lives of others, both abroad and close to home.

Central to this role will be Month End Close, General Ledger Reconciliation Review, weekly A/P analysis, Project and Federal Grant Accounting. The Accounting Manager will also assist with the year-end close, interim and year end audits, preparation of Form 990 and financial statements. The Accounting Manager will also be fully trained to serve as a backup to the Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting. The Accounting Manager supervises five staff and will perform their duties under the guidance and instructions of the Assistant Controller, Director of Accounting.

Key Outcomes:

In the first 90 days, the Accounting Manager will,

  • Learn and live the Americares values.
  • Complete all require new hire onboarding trainings.
  • Learn and understand the accounting department team and their processes and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in executing, analyzing, verifying, and reporting transactions of a fiscal nature.

In the first 6 months, the Accounting Manager will,

  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of month end close at Americares and be able to complete this effectively
  • Begin to learn and understand the annual 990 and audit reports
  • Provide an analysis of processes and procedures, with an eye to efficiency improvements, and support and build an effective cross training schedule for the accounting department.

In the first year, the Accounting Manager will,

  • Assume complete ownership of the day-to-day accounting functions and management of direct reports.
  • Assist with the year-end close, interim and year end audits, preparation of Form 990 and financial statements.
  • Be fully trained and prepared to serve as a backup to the Assistant Controller.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the monthly financial statement process

  • Manage the month end close process.
  • Provide exceptional leadership and support to overall accounting department.
  • Assist in preparing timely and accurate financial statements and reports.
  • Review and post journal entries.
  • Review monthly account reconciliations.
  • Review monthly bank account reconciliations.
  • Review and post invoices to AP subledger.
  • Review and analyze weekly cash disbursements.
  • Prepare annual 1099 Forms.
  • Assist with the year-end close, interim and year end audits, preparation of Form 990 and financial statements.

Establish, maintain, and enhance accounting systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Review, revise and maintain the Finance Department policies and procedures.

Miscellaneous financial projects, analysis and administrative duties as assigned.

  • Function as backup to others in Accounting.
  • Become a source of financial support for others in the organization.
  • Assist in the new ERP financial system implementation as needed.
  • Train, coach and develop Finance staff.

These competencies are required for the role:

  • Bachelor's in accounting and an active CPA
  • 5+ years nonprofit or similar experience
  • Experience with ERPX accounting systems
  • Exceptionally detail oriented and analytical in your approach to working effectively.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated sense of prioritization, both in competing work priorities and your team’s well being.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple assignments, priorities, and deadlines in a dynamic, very fast-paced environment in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Demonstrated experience with an accounting system and experience with accounting system implementation.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbally, and regularly give and receive feedback respectively and effectively.
  • Demonstrated leader with excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and adaptability to work effectively cross-functionally and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion within your teams and your work.

These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:

  • MBA in accounting or finance
  • Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
